Monday, January 30 

8:30 AM: “Step” Walking Challenge, Leechburg Public Library

Meet in front of the Leechburg Public Library on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:30 AM for a walk around the neighborhood. We’ll start and end at the library. Give the library a call at 724-236-0080 for more information.

1 PM: Mindful Libratory Mondays, Kittanning Public Library

Each Monday, Kittanning Public Library hosts Mindful Libratory Mondays geared toward homeschoolers ages 6-13. Lessons may include literature-based STEAM lessons, library scavenger hunts, reading lists, art shows, and more.

3 PM: New Year Teen Event, Kittanning Public Library

Come celebrate the new year at the Kittanning Public Library as we talk about our manifestations, goals, and reflections for the year over pizza and hot chocolate! Space is limited to 12. Call 724-543-1383 to sign up!

Tuesday, January 31

10:30 AM: Golden Age Social Club, Ford City Public Library

Meet up with friends for games, reading, conversation, and more! Adults aged 60 and up are welcome to join the social club every Tuesday at 10:30 AM in the library’s reading room.

11 AM: Valentine String Hearts Craft, Leechburg Public Library

Leechburg Public Library is hosting a craft day for teens and adults, Valentine’s Day style! Stop by the library to make string hearts between 11 AM and 6 PM.

12 PM: Music Time, Kittanning Public Library

Join Kittanning Public Library for songs and stories at the weekly Music Time program from 12-1 PM.

2 PM: Homeschool Hangout, Ford City Public Library

Held every Tuesday at 2 PM during the school year, the makerspace and programming area will be available for homeschool groups to use the space, books, and resources of the library, and computers. Studying a specific topic or under a certain theme? Requests for books and materials can be made ahead of time by calling or emailing the library! Open to all ages, free, no membership required.

5:30 PM: Wine & Wisdom

Want to learn to enhance your membership with the Alle Kiski Strong Chamber? Curious about what benefits are available to you and your business? Wednesday, February 1

10 AM: Music, Movement, and Stories, Leechburg Public Library

Music, Movement, and Stories is a weekly program at the Leechburg Public Library based on nursery rhymes and songs.

11:30 AM: Storytime, Ford City Public Library

Storytime is a half-hour storytime for children ages 3-5 with adult supervision required. Miss Katie will lead the Storytime with songs, puppets, a story, and a simple craft. Storytime is typically held in the library’s children’s area but may be held in Ford City Park or at the Clock Tower in the summer or for special occasions — check out the library event calendar for location changes! During the summer, Summer Storytime is open to children of all ages. Registration is not required but is appreciated for planning purposes; walk-ins are always welcome!

6 PM: Weigh-to-Go Wednesday, Ford City Public Library

Meet up with others on their weight loss and healthy living journeys each week for talks, tips, and much-needed support. Individuals aged 18 and over are welcome to join Weigh to Go Wednesday each week at 7 PM in Ford City Public Library’s reading room.

7 PM: Twissted Trivia, Edgewood Winery & Event Center

Join Edgewood Winery for Twissted Trivia! Trivia starts at 7 PM, and it’s free to participate.

Thursday, February 2

10:30 AM: Just for Laughs Book Club, Ford City Public Library

Join the Ford City Public Library for its new comedy-based book club! Just For Laughs will be held on the first Thursday of the month at 10:30am. Registration and a library membership are required to borrow a copy of the book. Register online or call 724-763-3591 to register or for any questions.

10:30 AM: Pre-K Story Hour, Leechburg Public Library

Join Leechburg Public Library for its weekly AM pre-K story hour from 10:30-11:30 AM.

11 AM-1 PM: Genealogy Group, Leechburg Area Museum & Historical Society

Join the Leechburg Museum’s Genealogy Group on the first and third Thursday of each month from 11 AM-1 PM. New members are always welcome.

1 PM: Library Playgroup, Ford City Public Library

Feel like you’re stuck at home with the kids? Every Thursday at 1 PM, parents and caregivers are welcome to sit together and chat (with other adults!) while their children play, learn and socialize in the Ford City Public Library’s children’s area. Ages 0+. Free, no membership or registration required.

2:30 PM: Poverty Spiral Simulation in Armstrong County

Join United Way as they facilitate the Poverty Spiral simulation in Armstrong County at the Experience Armstrong, Inc. Welcome Center in Kittanning. The Poverty Spiral provides an opportunity to increase empathy toward those in our region who experience poverty and better understand the decision-making required to survive in financial instability. This simulation requires you to put yourself in the shoes of someone else and face situations without clear solutions. We hope that this interactive and impactful experience will leave you with an open mind, challenge your preconceived notions about poverty, increase awareness of the struggles of many of our Southwestern PA neighbors, and ask yourself, “What next?” Registration for this free educational experience is required, as space is limited. 6 PM: DJ Trivia, Portage Inn

Portage Inn is hosting DJ Trivia weekly on Thursdays at 6 PM! It’s free to play, and you can win prizes.

6 PM: The Life of General Ulysses S. Grant

In this encounter, US Grant will tell you how his reactions and decisions as a boy and young officer shaped the man he became, and how those same incidents that led to those decisions were all part of a greater destiny than any of us could decide for ourselves to lead a “ safe and good” life. US Grant was a reluctant leader in many situations, but time and again proved up to the task. This discussion will focus on much of that experience. The program is scheduled for Thursday, February 2nd at 6:00 pm at the Ford City Public Library 1136 4th Ave. Ford City, PA 16226. It is free and open to the public, all ages are welcome. The program would be appropriate for ages 10 and up. Pre-registration is appreciated for planning purposes.

7 PM: Sacred Society of Mystics, Mystic Beauty Spiritual Wellness Studio

For those looking for the witchier side of spirituality, Mystic Beauty Spiritual Wellness Studio created its own coven page. This is an ongoing meeting every other Thursday. We will also meet on other days based around Pagan, Wiccan, and witchcraft sabbats, luner cycles, and much more.

Friday, February 3

Story Time is held weekly at Kittanning Public Library on Fridays at 10:30 AM!

11:30 AM: Littles Lapsit, Ford City Public Library

Join Miss Katie on Fridays at 11:30 AM for a special lapsit storytime with our littlest library friends. A short story will be read by Miss Katie as parents/caregivers hold their little ones on their laps and follow along with their own copies of the book. Exposure to book handling, following along with words, and reading aloud helps garner early literacy skills and promote building a strong vocabulary from birth. Open to children ages 0 to 2 and their caregivers. Registration is not required but is appreciated for planning purposes.

2 PM: Crafternoon, Ford City Public Library

Working on a cool project? Looking for a new hobby to pick up? Stop by the FCPL weekly Crafternoon session, where the Makerspace area will be reserved for crafters to bring in projects, check out some maker kits, and make use of their supplies and resources. For ages 18+, but open to all ages with adult supervision.

3 PM: Friday Night Game Time, Ford City Public Library

Hang out with the FCPL in the Makerspace area on Friday nights! Play video games, board games, do crafts, or anything you want. Free and open to all ages (especially teens!).

7 PM: Peace Sign, Edgewood Winery & Event Center

Peace Sign will be playing at Edgewood Winery and Event Center in Spring Church! Cover charge is $5.

Saturday, February 4

8 AM-1 PM: Antiques and Crafts Flea Market, Pony Farm Trap & Gun Club

Pony Farm Trap & Gun Club is hosting a flea market on Saturday from 8 AM-1 PM.

10 AM: Nature Photography Class for Every Season, Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek

Learn to take beautiful nature photographs in any season using your cell phone. Each 2-hour class will take place at the Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek and will include some light hiking. Register for individual classes or for all four classes covering all four seasons. Each class is $10/student or register now for the entire four seasons for $35 (save $5). Register online.

11 AM: Free Tutoring, Kittanning Public Library

Tutoring will be on Saturdays from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm for grades K-12. Science, reading, social studies, English, and elementary mathematics. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Call the library at 724-543-1383 to schedule an appointment. We hope to see you there!

12 PM: Tea Party, Kittanning Public Library

A Par-Tea is Brewing! Register yourself and your (under age 12) sweetheart to attend the Tea Party at Kittanning Public Library. Hear stories, make a craft, and enjoy tea. Call the library at 724-543-1383 or stop in by January 31, 2023. Don’t forget to wear your fancy party clothes!

12:30 PM: Free Tutoring, Ford City Public Library

Funded through the United Way Impact Grant for the 2022-2023 academic year, FCPL is offering free tutoring services weekly for students in K-12. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome. In the event of a cancellation by our tutor, appointments can be made during the following week – contact us for more information!

1 PM: Animal Allies Program, Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek

Spend the afternoon with award-winning children’s book author, Elizabeth Pagel-Hogan. Author of Animal Allies: 15 Amazing Women in Wildlife Research. This book was recently chosen as an Outstanding Science Trade book by the National Science Teaching Association. Pagel-Hogan will lead an interactive discussion with young people about conservation topics and exploring careers in wildlife and writing. Did you know that creativity is a factor in writing and science? This is a great workshop that will give young people a chance to see themselves in STEM careers. Attendees are welcome to bring their own questions about science careers, writing careers, and conservation topics that they care about! Light Refreshments will be available. Register online.

2 PM: Young Adult Book Club, Ford City Public Library

Ford City Public Library will host a Young Adult Book Club for patrons ages 12-18. Book Club will be hosted on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month at 2pm. Teens can meet up to discuss a selection of books, or decide on specific books as a group and have the library order multiple copies for each meeting. 7 PM: The Southern Fried Rock Show XVII

17 years of The Southern Fried Rock Show continue at the Freeport Event Center. A great night of music and dancing featuring Dinnerbell Road, Halfway Down, Noble Hops, and Strung Over. Craft beer is available from Missing Links Brewery to those 21 and older. Food is available as well. BYOB if you wish. This show is for 18+. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. 7 PM: HY-5, Edgewood Winery & Event Center

HY-5 will be playing at Edgewood Winery and Event Center in Spring Church! Cover charge is $5.

Sunday, February 5

12 PM: Cross Country Skiing Basics, Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek

The freshly fallen snow is beckoning you to go play outside! Perhaps you have wondered what it would be like to glide on the snow across a hill and dale on a pair of cross-country skis. You ask yourself, where can I go, what should I wear, who has the right equipment, and will I have fun? By coming to this class, you will have many of those questions answered! Boots, skis, bindings and poles will become new talking points for you. You’ll learn about the different styles of Nordic gear and the pros/cons of each. What clothing you wear will ensure you are prepared for a day on the snow will be discussed. Finally, information will be provided about where to rent or purchase cross-country gear and great places to go to experience the snow that has been calling you to play outside. This class will be co-taught by Joseph Treibsch and Lindsay Gibson, Founder of the Women’s Adventure Club of Pittsburgh. Register here.
