The Progressive Workshop of Armstrong County, Inc. (PWAC) was formed in 1968 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to provide vocational rehabilitation services to people with disabilities. Various civic groups raised the money needed for the first year of operation. Currently, funding is obtained through the Behavioral and Developmental Health Program of Armstrong and Indiana Counties, the Office of Developmental Programs Waivers and fee-for-service funding.

The Armstrong County Historical Museum & Genealogical Society is a local non-profit organization that has been collecting and preserving the historical artifacts and genealogical records of the county since 1924.

HAVIN Inc. was founded in 1979 by a grassroots organization of women. In its earliest stage, this group of women worked toward their goal of providing services to battered women and survivors of sexual assault by establishing a volunteer-staffed hotline for survivors of abuse. In early 1983, funding from PCADV was secured and HAVIN established its first 24-hour hotline and began a “Safe Home” program for battered women. In mid-1983, PCAR recognized the work being done with survivors of sexual assault in Armstrong County and funded HAVIN to continue its services.

The Armstrong-Indiana Behavioral and Developmental Health Program (AIBDHP) was established by the Commissioners of Armstrong and Indiana Counties to comply with the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Act of 1966 passed by the Pennsylvania Legislature. The program is responsible for assessing needs, developing plans and allocating funds, as well as maintaining oversight responsibility of the Intellectual Disabilities, Early Intervention, Behavioral Health and Medical Assistance HealthChoices programs.
