Your neighboring county invites you to join the Westmoreland 250 Celebration on May 20, 2023!

Before there was an Independence Hall, there was a tavern on the frontier. Before there was a Declaration of Independence, there were the Hanna’s Town Resolves.

On May 20th, 2023, in the tavern in Historic Hanna’s Town, playwright Rennick Steele and actors from Freeport Theatre Festival will be partnering with Historic Hanna’s Town in the dramatization of the drafting of the document which foreshadowed the Declaration of Independence: the Hanna’s Town Resolves! Why do we celebrate this date? Because this document was one of the first to challenge British authority BEFORE the Declaration of Independence. The men of the western Pennsylvania frontier (today’s Westmoreland County) took a stand before most other colonial communities. We celebrate their courage! We celebrate their sacrifice! We celebrate the written word! WE CELEBRATE WESTMORELAND 250! You might be surprised at what you discover during your visit to this historical and archeological landmark: Hanna’s Town!

This performance is an excerpt from The Spirit of the Revolution, a historical drama written by Rennick Steele and scheduled for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from July 7 to 23 at Freeport Theatre Festival.

Performances will occur at 12 PM and 2 PM. The show is free with general admission, including a guided tour, exhibit gallery, and use of the library.
