Experience Armstrong Waterways Sojourn [POSTPONED]

Formerly the Alle-Kiski-Connie Rivers Sojourn, Experience Armstrong, Inc. is excited to carry on this beloved kayak and canoe sojourn with our own spin on it.

* UPDATE, 5/11 — DUE TO THE INCREASED WATER LEVELS IN THE REGION AND THE FORECASTED THUNDERSTORMS FOR THIS COMING WEEKEND, WE HAVE MADE THE DECISION TO POSTPONE OUR EVENT. WE WANT TO ENSURE THIS EVENT IS A SAFE, ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS AND PARTNERS, SO WE WILL BE RESCHEDULING THE EVENT FOR A LATER DATE, TO BE ANNOUNCED. WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE AS WE CONFIRM A NEW DATE AND SCHEDULE WITH OUR EVENT PARTNERS AND SAFETY CREW. *

May 13-15, 2022

Experience all that Armstrong County waterways have to offer during this scenic adventure. During the day, we’ll be immersing ourselves in the rich heritage and beauty of our region’s unique waterways. In the evenings, we’ll retreat back to the Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek for a variety of educational and entertaining activities that showcase our county. You’ll learn from guest speakers, indulge in delicious food from local eateries, and leave on Sunday afternoon with memories that’ll last a lifetime.

Once registered, all participants will receive an information packet with an itinerary for the weekend, directions to the Outdoor Discovery Center and our various launch sites and take-outs, and additional details to ensure you’re ready to Experience Armstrong from your kayak or canoe. Whether you’re an avid paddler or new to the sport, we invite you to participate. Register for one day of paddling, or join us for a full weekend of paddling and activities that highlight our local waterways and those who are helping to keep them safe.

Registration fees for the full-weekend paddle include lodging, shuttle services, a paddling refresher course, a moisture-wicking t-shirt, the majority of the programming throughout the weekend, and meals for Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday morning. They don’t include boat rentals.

Pricing:

  • Full-Weekend Paddle: $150
  • Saturday Paddle or Sunday Paddle (single-day): $75

FAQs

  • I’m new to kayaking, is this a safe event for me? Yes! We welcome paddlers of all skill levels. We will have a paddle refresher course and safety orientation on Friday afternoon and a team of experienced volunteer guide boaters on the water during both paddling days to keep you safe.
  • Is alcohol allowed? You’ll have to save your celebrating for after your big paddling weekend — alcohol isn’t permitted on the water or at the Outdoor Discovery Center.
  • I’m under 18, can I participate? While this event is open to paddlers of all skill levels, it’s primarily for adults 18 years of age and over. Children 12 and up may attend when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Do I need to bring a tent for camping? No, unless you want to tent camp for the weekend at the Outdoor Discovery Center. There are bunk rooms with two sets of bunk beds each. Tent camping is permitted, but all gear will have to be provided by the participant.
  • I live locally and can’t participate all weekend. Can I sign up for just one day? Yes! We will be offering limited spaces for one-day paddlers to participate in our adventures.
  • What type of boat can we use for this event? The Experience Armstrong Waterways Sojourn permits single kayaks, tandem kayaks, and canoes. You are encouraged to bring your own boat, but we can provide information about local liveries for those who don’t own boats or aren’t able to bring theirs for this event.
